Terms of service

Version of 20 October 2026

These terms govern the use of BillMate (billmate.it), a service provided by the operator of the BillMate service (billmate.it). By using the service after accepting them you agree to this contract.

1. What BillMate is

BillMate is a tool for recording expenses shared with friends, in groups or one-to-one, and working out who owes what to whom. It is not a payment, banking or financial intermediation service: it does not move money, hold funds, or execute or guarantee payments. Payments happen outside the app, between people; BillMate only records them.

2. Account

3. Content and conduct

4. Payment methods and balances

Payment methods are entered by users and end-to-end encrypted: we can neither verify nor read them. Before making a transfer or payment, always check with the person concerned that the details are correct: BillMate is not liable for payments sent to wrong details or details altered by third parties.

Balances are computed from records entered by users. Always check expenses and correct mistakes: a displayed balance is not an acknowledgement of debt or a payment order.

5. Availability and liability

The service is offered free of charge and “as is”: we do our best to keep it reliable and secure, but we do not guarantee it will be free from interruptions or errors, and you can export your data as CSV whenever you like. To the extent permitted by law we are not liable for indirect damages or losses arising from use or inability to use the service. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded by law, or consumers’ mandatory rights.

6. Personal data

Processing of personal data is described in the privacy notice, which forms an integral part of this agreement and which you accept together with the terms.

7. Changes

We may change these terms and the privacy notice. For substantial changes we publish a new version, tell you what changed and ask you to accept again at your next sign-in: without acceptance you cannot keep using the app, but you can export your data and delete your account. We record the version and date of each acceptance.

8. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by Italian law. If you are a consumer, the mandatory protections of the law of your country and the courts of your place of residence remain unaffected. For online disputes you may also use the EU online dispute resolution platform (ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr).
